The New Zealand Association was formed 1837 to colonize New Zealand under the influence of E. G. Wakefield. Disolved 1838 after the failure in Parliament of a Bill concerning the scheme. Lt. Col. Robert Henry Wynyard administered the Government of New Zealand between the Departure of Sir George Grey 1853 and the arrival of Col. Gore-Browne 1855.
